Contract and advice matters

Tanisha Mugwimi (‘24) and Connor Werth (‘23) worked with an East Bay performing arts center in developing theater license and artist engagement agreements. Tanisha and Connor also developed a video production services agreement and a talent release for a San Francisco nonprofit that prepares low income youth, young people of color, and young women for employment in the creative industries.

Dennis Poehland (‘23) and Haley Chow (‘24) drafted service delivery and volunteer documents for a nonprofit that trains and enables college student volunteers to design and develop technology products for nonprofits. The team also prepared a suite of curator, art loan, and fiscal sponsorship templates for a San Francisco cultural center that seeks to leverage the power of art as a tool for social change.

Jacobo Rothner (‘23) and Betsy Holland (‘23) developed meal preparation, event, and volunteer documents for a San Francisco nonprofit that provides job training to individuals who are overcoming obstacles such as former incarceration or homelessness. Betsy and Jacobo also prepared multiple contracts for a Bay Area organization that seeks to empower media makers to develop and share diverse stories through art, education, and technology.

Madison Marko (‘24) and Nathan May (‘24) drafted complex opera co-production and design services agreements for a Bay Area contemporary opera company. The team also prepared a set of collaboration, service delivery, subgrant, information sharing, and other agreements for a workforce development and social service organization focused on the Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco.

Advanced clinic student Taylor Beardall (’23) assisted the country’s largest hunger-relief organization on several substantial contract matters. Taylor worked on affiliation and trademark license agreements, and regularly interacted with client executives and staff.

Corporate governance

In addition, all O&T students carried out comprehensive corporate governance reviews. These engagements involved reviewing the client’s existing governance documents and practices, preparing a detailed report, drafting an extensive suite of bylaws, board committee charters, and other documents, providing a self-assessment tool and set of recommendations regarding board diversity and inclusion, and meeting with board members and senior executives. Nathan May and Dennis Poehland worked with a San Francisco independent cinema. Jacobo Rothner and Haley Chow represented a Los Angeles-based immigration policy advocacy organization. Connor Werth and Betsy Holland worked with a southern California animal shelter. Madison Marko and Tanisha Mugwimi advised a statewide foundation focused on racial, economic, and gender justice.
