Matter of Y

The clinic assisted Y with obtaining a U Visa, a form of legal relief for non-citizens who have been the victim of a serious crime and have cooperated with law enforcement. Y was the victim of severe domestic violence and was in danger of being deported back to Mexico, away from her three United States Citizen children and the community she has lived in for fifteen years.

Piotr Korzynski (’12) and Paco Torres (’11) conducted comprehensive client meetings, interviewed witnesses, and assembled large amounts of supporting evidence to show the violence their client had suffered, her cooperation with the police, and her strong ties to the community. Due to Pete’s and Paco’s extensive work establishing Y’s eligibility, her U Visa application was approved, and she now has the right to live and work in the United States.
