Stephen’s research focuses on cost competitiveness, business models and public policies related to low-carbon energy technologies. His work also examines commercialization of emerging environmental control technologies and the value of optionality in electricity system designs. Stephen’s area of specialization includes solar, wind, minigrid and carbon capture technologies, clean energy financing structures, the economics of innovation, and environmental responsibility . He serves as the Associate Director of the Sustainable Energy Initiative at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and is a Research Fellow at the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford University.

Stephen holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Ph.D. Minor in Management Science and Engineering) from Stanford University, and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering and a B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Before coming to Stanford, Stephen worked as a professional in project management and infrastructure project development in Canada.
