SUMMARY:A Conversation with SCRJ’s Bremond Fellows: Constitutionality of Federalizing the National Guard and Implications of the California Racial Justice Act
DESCRIPTION:Is the President’s decision to federalize the National Guard to support federal law enforcement justiciable? How should courts scrutinize the factual predicates and potential pretexts of a presidential federalization? And\, how does the California Racial Justice Act (CA RJA) change what evidence litigants can present for showing discrimination in criminal cases to challenge their sentences? How does the CA RJA—and similar legislation before it—change the causation requirement for showing discrimination? \nPlease join the Stanford Center for Racial Justice’s Harry Bremond-Wilson Sonsini Foundation Student Fellows—Brionna Bolaños\, JD `27\, and Dayle Chung\, JD `27—who will discuss their research on these timely issues\, followed by a Q&A with the audience. \nThe Harry Bremond-Wilson Sonsini Foundation Student Fellowship offers 2Ls and 3Ls at Stanford Law School a unique dual learning experience that immerses them in racial justice work through a wide range of impactful opportunities. Applications for the 2026–27 cohort are now open—apply by May 8 and learn more about the fellowship here.\n\nhttps://law.stanford.edu/event/a-conversation-with-scrjs-bremond-fellows-constitutionality-of-federalizing-the-national-guard-and-implications-of-the-california-racial-justice-act/\n\nThis event is open to the public.\n\nRegister: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScWkpfyLhN6s1OAPv5ZkC8niUxP20OMvvBogXSYeluuV8TKTA/viewform?usp=dialog
