Please join us for a brief discussion with Professors Joe Grundfest and Dan Siciliano about the key principles and stakeholders in corporate governance, followed by a presentation and Q&A on Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) with Ashley Walter (JD/MA ’09), Chair of Fenwick & West’s CSR Practice Group and the ABA Business Section’s Task Force on CSR Law.
Although CSR initiatives have been pursued by a range of companies as voluntary measures for decades, we are now witnessing a transition from voluntary CSR measures to CSR “hard law” with the advent of CSR-related laws and regulations in the U.S. and around the globe. There is now demand for “CSR lawyers” – lawyers who have substantive CSR knowledge, legal skills in the disparate practice areas that constitute CSR law, and a practical understanding of corporate supply chains and responsibility management systems. The discussion will cover CSR initiatives in Silicon Valley and elsewhere, the emergence of this new practice area, the advice corporations are seeking, and the opportunities and challenges that a career in this field presents.
