Come hear Jerry Roth, international litigation and arbitration partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson, discuss private international law issues that arise in practice, career opportunities in international litigation and arbitration, and organizations – such as the Union Internationale des Avocats – that provide extracurricular opportunities for young lawyers. Have you ever wondered what a typical working day might entail for a practitioner of private international law, or how to break into private international law practice? Come ask Mr. Roth!
Mr. Roth is a partner in the San Francisco office of Munger, Tolles & Olson, specializing in business and international litigation and arbitration, as well as white collar criminal defense and investigations. In the business litigation area, Jerry has defended large-scale intercompany commercial disputes; securities fraud, antitrust, RICO, privacy and consumer class actions; and intellectual property cases including trade secret misappropriation and trademark matters. He has represented Verizon, Occidental Petroleum, PepsiCo, Northrop Grumman, Warner Bros., Berkshire Hathaway, LG Display and LinkedIn. Jerry is an active member of the international litigation bar and has represented European, Asian and Latin American clients in criminal and civil litigation matters, as well as U.S. companies in matters abroad. As a former federal prosecutor in New York, Jerry also specializes in white collar criminal defense and related matters such as SEC enforcement actions and internal corporate investigations and he frequently represents individual executives as well as corporations, with special emphasis on FCPA and international matters. Mr. Roth received his A.B. and J.D. from Harvard in 1979 and 1983, respectively. He also served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review and wrote on the applicability of the RICO statute to commercial disputes. He thereafter clerked for U.S. District Judge William Schwarzer in San Francisco and worked at the Department of Justice.
