On Wednesday, October 5th from 1-2 pm, join Stanford Law Students for Climate Action (SLSCA) for the first event in Low-Carbon Lawyering, a series SLSCA is hosting this year that will explore the impact the climate crisis is already having and will continue to have on the legal profession, and that will give SLS students insight on how we can help address the crisis in our careers, whatever field of law we pursue.
The panelists will include SLS affiliates and practitioners working at organizations that are addressing the climate crisis, who supervised SLSCA members during summer 2021 internships.
1. Connie Cho, Associate Attorney at Communities for a Better Environment (Oakland, CA)
Connie first joined CBE as a Justice Catalyst Legal Fellow in 2020. Prior to becoming an attorney, she worked in local government, community organizing, and non-profit services to transform health care and social safety net systems in New York. As a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholar, she received her B.A. from Yale College and her M.Sc. in Gender, Policy, and Inequalities from the London School of Economics. She holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
2. Ellen Anderson, Climate and Energy Director, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (St. Paul, MN)
Ellen brings decades of experience in fighting for climate change legislation at the state level. She is a former member of the Minnesota Senate, the former Chair of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, and leader of the Energy Transition Lab at the University of Minnesota. Prior to becoming a state senator, Ellen clerked for the MN Court of Appeals and served as a a Hennepin County Public Defender.
3. Michael Wara, Senior Research Scholar and Director of Climate and Energy Policy Program, Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment
At the Woods Center, Michael provides fact-based, bipartisan, technical and legal assistance to policy makers engaged in the development of novel climate and energy law and regulation. Michael’s legal and policy scholarship focuses on carbon pricing, energy innovation, and regulated industries. He is also an expert on international environmental law with a particular focus on the ozone and climate treaty regimes. Prior to joining the Woods Institute, Wara was an Associate Professor at Stanford Law School and an Associate in Holland & Knight’s Government Practice.
