SUMMARY:Judicial Clerkships and Beyond: Insights from Ninth Circuit Judge John Owens
DESCRIPTION:Join the Rhode Center and the American Constitution Society (ACS) for an insider’s conversation on judicial clerkships with Judge John Owens of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Owens (SLS 1996) will share his experience clerking on the Ninth Circuit and for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg—invaluable guidance for students pursuing their own clerkships. He’ll discuss how his clerkships shaped his career trajectory\, including his subsequent work as a federal prosecutor for more than 11 years (serving as Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California)\, at Munger\, Tolles & Olson LLP\, and ultimately to his 2014 U.S. Senate confirmation to the Ninth Circuit. This is an essential event for students interested in clerkship applications and understanding how judicial experience can launch a distinguished legal career.  Professor Nora Freeman Engstrom will moderate and share her own insights as a law clerk to Judge Merrick Garland and Judge Henry H.
