Law and Society Film screening #1: “Chocó” – Colombia (followed by a discussion with Prof. César Rodríguez-Garavito)
When: October 20th, 7-9pm
Film description: Chocó promised her daughter a cake for her birthday. For women like Chocó, keeping this promise is no simple task. This film, a participant of Berlin International Film Festival, tells the story of one person – and a whole region – in Southern Colombia, where poverty and hard labor prevail and human rights and dignities lack presence. The film sheds light on the problems of Afro-Colombian women, the gold mining industry and life in one of the poorest regions of world.
