Remapping Taiwan’s Criminal Procedural Reforms

To construct a fairer criminal justice system in Taiwan, a series of reforms have been mapped out and implemented since 1999 up to now. In place of either a Continental “inquisitorial” pattern or an Anglo-American “adversarial” pattern, Taiwan is now experimenting an alternative adversarial pattern based solidly on its own historical and cultural traditions. Please join us to welcome the esteemed senior prosecutor Mr. Xihuai Zhang (張熙懷) for a presentation on his observations about the latent risks during the reform process, and his remapping plans toward the goal of better criminal justice in Taiwan.
Mr. Xihuai Zhang (張熙懷) is a senior Prosecutor on the first rank in Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. He has been a prosecutor for thirty years with unparalleled experience and broad comparative vision in Taiwan. He is one of most influential Taiwanese prosecutor that not just personally impacted the younger generations of Prosecutors in Taiwan, but also widely influential in mainland China.
