Internet intermediaries play a central role on enabling freedom of expression and access to information in the digital environment. On the other hand, these intermediaries are frequently enlisted to help law enforcement authorities and third parties seeking to remove content from the internet.
Well crafted intermediary liability rules are crucial to maintain a proper balance between the free flow of information and the protection of third party rights. They can also protect intermediaries from undue interference and to foster innovation on the different layers of the Internet.
At the next meeting of the SILLab, Daphne Keller and Luiz Moncau will introduce CIS’s Intermediary Liability work and talk about the trends identified on issues such as the Right to Be Forgotten, Jurisdiction and the requirements and pressures on platforms to monitor user speech.
As usual, the SILLab will be also an opportunity to discuss your possible involvement with CIS activities in the field of intermediary liability, term papers you might be writing at the intersection between Internet law and intermediary liability and contributions to the World Intermediary Liability Map (WILMap).
Pizza will be served!

We look forward to meeting you Thursday, October 13!
