Professor Manfred Nowak is currently a visiting professor teaching international human rights law at SLS. He has a long and distinguished career including as the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment (2004-2010), a judge at the Human Rights Chamber in Bosnia (1996-2003) and an UN expert on missing persons in the former Yugoslavia (1994-1997). He has been a professor at the Institute of Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna since 1986 and is the chairperson of the European Masters Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (since 2000).
Prof. Nowak will draw on his vast experience and expertise to reflect on where the human rights profession is headed: where are the most interesting and meaningful jobs in both the public and private sector, how to prepare oneself for a productive career, how to navigate the UN bureaucracy to find a right job, etc.
