Ms. de la Vega — who is currently the Levin Center’s Director of Pro Bono and Externship programs — began her career as a federal prosecutor in Minneapolis after clerking for the late U.S. District Court Judge Robert Renner. Since then, she has tried the gamut of federal cases ranging from simple bank robberies to complex multi-defendant white collar crimes. Winner of numerous community and Attorney General’s awards — including the prestigious Director’s Award for Superior Performance — she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Jose where she was a member of the Organized Crime Strike Force, as well as Branch Chief.
Since leaving federal service In 2004, Ms. de la Vega has been writing legal/political pieces that have appeared in a variety of print and online publications, including The Christian Science Monitor, the LA Times, The Nation, Chicago Sun-Times, Mother Jones, Salon and others. Her book, U.S. v. Bush, is a hypothetical grand jury presentation in which she sets forth a case against the former President and his top aides for violating 18 USC Section 371 by conspiring to defraud the United States in connection with pre-Iraq war intelligence.
