Women of Stanford Law 50th Anniversary Celebration – A Discussion with SLS Women Trailblazers

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Women of Stanford Law, Jenny S. Martinez, Richard E. Lang Professor of Law and Dean of Stanford Law School, invites you to join a conversation between two SLS women pioneers in the legal profession. Brooksley Born, BA ’61, JD ’64, and Sallyanne Payton, BA ’64, JD ’68, will share their experiences, insights, and memorable moments from SLS and throughout their legal careers.
The program will begin with a welcome from Dean Martinez, followed by a moment of remembrance for Professors Barbara Babcock and Deborah Rhode. After the conversation and Q&A, you will have the option to join breakout sessions with other SLS alumnae and current students to share your own stories from SLS and your career.
For our alumnae living in regions where this event time is not convenient, we’re offering two other events to watch the recording, followed by live small group discussions with your fellow alumnae in the region.

Brooksley Born, BA ’61, JD ’64, was the first woman president of the Stanford Law Review and received the Outstanding Senior Award. Ms. Born is a founder of the ABA Women’s Caucus and chaired the board of the National Women’s Law Center for many years. She co-founded and chairs the ABA Women Trailblazers in the Law Oral History Project.
Sallyanne Payton, BA ’64, JD ’68, was the first black graduate of Stanford Law School and leading health and administrative law scholar at the University of Michigan Law School, where she had a nearly 40-year career as the second woman appointed to the faculty. Ms. Payton was part of the team that crafted what would become the Affordable Care Act.
