SUMMARY:The Evolving Legal Framework for Environmental and Social Corporate  Governance
DESCRIPTION:Private companies are subject to an evolving and expanding array of legal obligations to address the environmental and social aspects of their operations.  Although regulatory efforts in this area have traditionally involved voluntary standards for companies\, they are increasingly becoming mandatory.  Some legal obligations in the field\, which arise under the laws of a growing number of countries\, require companies to investigate\, disclose\, and remediate environmental and social issues.  Other laws ban the use or importation of certain products.  These regulations present compliance risk—reinforced by the traditional risk of strategic litigation—which itself is becoming more potent given the increasing array of laws/regulations on these matters.  Patrick Miller\, a leading lawyer involved in advising companies about their obligations with regard to environment and social issues\, will discuss the contemporary legal landscape regarding economic and social governance facing transnational companies.\n\nhttps://law.stanford.edu/event/the-evolving-legal-framework-for-environmental-and-social-corporate-governance/\n\nThis event is open to the public.\n\nRegister: https://forms.gle/jBdxjMwULmg7EWUt7
