More than 100 design professionals from fashion, industry and academia filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court Thursday backing Apple Inc. in its smartphone beef with Samsung Electronics Co.

Among the 111 signatories are fashion icons Calvin Klein and Alexander Wang as well as lesser-known designers for companies including Bentley Motors, Louis Vuitton and the architecture firm Foster + Partners.

The brief fires back at arguments advanced by a coalition of intellectual property law professors, including Stanford Law School’s Mark Lemley and Colleen Chien of Santa Clara University School of Law, who say patent design damages should be apportioned when they’re part of a high-tech device containing numerous other patented features.
