Work by students in the Religious Liberty Clinic is cited in this San Francisco Chronicle article by Melody Gutierrez regarding the passage of a new law allowing a dying monk to be buried on the grounds of his monastery. 

Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Tuesday a narrowly crafted bill granting a monk's dying wish to be buried on the grounds of his 9-acre monastery in Castro Valley.

Abbot Theodor Micka said he was “filled with enthusiasm” after Sen. Ellen Corbett, D-San Leandro, called to share news that his final resting place will be where he hoped – at the Holy Cross Monastery he co-founded in 1979 primarily using money he inherited from his mother.

Micka was diagnosed in April with advanced cancer at the junction of the esophagus and stomach. Scott said Micka delivered services up until recent months, when his condition worsened. The Religious Liberty Clinic at Stanford helped Micka and Scott pursue the state law.
