Summary

A metro Detroit cryonics lab is experiencing a surge in international interest and memberships after accepting the body of 14-year-old British girl, who died last month and whose frozen corpse is now stored inside one of the facility’s giant vats of liquid nitrogen.

The Cryonics Institute in Clinton Township has been inundated with calls and visits by British tabloid reporters, as well as inquiries from curious would-be patients since news broke last week that a UK judge had granted the teen’s dying wish to be transported and cryonically frozen there once she succumbed to a rare form of cancer.

“This is as close to impossible as anything I’ve heard,” said Stanford University professor Henry (Hank) Greely, who directs the Stanford program in neuroscience and society.
