Summary

San Francisco State University’s (SFSU) History Department is proud to present a book talk and
signing by Dr. William B. Gould IV, Charles A. Beardsley Professor of Law, Emeritus, at
Stanford Law School. This event is part of the History Department’s annual Constitutional
Rights and Wrongs Conference and takes place on Friday, September 16, at 12:00-1:30 pm in
SFSU’s Leonard Library, Room 286.

Gould served as the chair of the National Labor Relations Board (1994-1998) after a contentious
approval process in the US Senate, which he characterized as “a determined campaign of cynical
character assassination” by right -wing and business forces. He was the first African American
and the first labor law scholar to hold that position.
