The American Law Institute (ALI) recently announced 58 newly elected members, including Stanford Law professors Richard Thompson Ford and David Alan Sklansky. ALI members are highly regarded judges, lawyers and law professors who are confidentially nominated by their peers, vetted by ALI’s Membership Committee and elected by the ALI Council.

An expert on civil rights and antidiscrimination law, Richard Thompson Ford (BA ‘88) is the George E. Osborne Professor of Law at SLS. His scholarship combines social criticism and legal analysis and his work has focused on the social and legal conflicts surrounding claims of discrimination, on the causes and effects of racial segregation, and on the use of territorial boundaries as instruments of social regulation.

David Alan Sklansky is the Stanley Morrison Professor of Law, and Faculty Co-Director of the Stanford Criminal Justice Center. He teaches and writes about criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence and his scholarship has addressed the law, sociology, and political science of policing; the proper exercise and constraint of prosecutorial power; the interpretation and application of the Fourth Amendment; and fairness and accuracy in criminal adjudication.
