Summary

President Donald Trump on Wednesday commuted the prison sentence of the former manager of a kosher slaughterhouse in Iowa convicted of fraud charges.

Sholom Rubashkin, former vice president of Agriprocessors Inc., has served eight years of a 27-year sentence after his 2009 conviction on 86 federal financial fraud charges.

At the time, Sanford University law professor Robert Weisberg said the sentence was out of proportion.

“I don’t understand why it was a longer sentence than what the prosecution asked for, especially when the prosecution asked for a sentence that was already pretty severe,” he said.
