Know Your Rights for Immigrant Parents Navigating Juvenile Justice System

Nayna Gupta (’13) and Julian Simcock (’13) worked on behalf of Silicon Valley De-Bug, a nonprofit community organization in San Jose, to develop know-your-rights materials for immigrant parents in the Bay Area.  These materials were designed to explain the differences between the immigration and juvenile delinquency systems to parents whose children are facing charges in both systems.  In order to create the materials, Nayna and Julian met with juvenile defense attorneys, community organizations, and immigration attorneys.  Nayna and Julian synthesized their research to create informative and easily digestible materials that can be used by community members throughout the Bay Area to better understand their children’s rights and the resources available to them.
