Library Resources for SLS Alumni/Alumnae & Recent Grads

Use of the Library:  Stanford Law School alumni/alumnae are always welcome to use the law library. If you are an SLS alumnus or alumna and would like a SLS alumni library card, please fill out the online form or contact us at circulation@law.stanford.edu. Please provide us with your name as you’d like it to appear on the card, your mailing address and your class year.  Note that the SLS alumni library card will provide access and borrowing to the law library only. Borrowing is limited to 5 items at a time, with a twenty-eight day loan period plus two unseen renewals. All charged out material is subject to recall. Some library material is limited to current SLS faculty, staff, and student use only.

Recent grad?  Recent grads can still access and print in the library with their student ID as follows:

Question

Answer

When do graduating students’ existing IDs stop working at the library? 1 day after commencement ceremonies
When do graduating SLS Alumni IDs stop working on the 2nd floor library gate, ending 24/7 access? On July 31 of your year of graduation
When do graduating students’ printing privileges end? End of August
Do graduating students need to keep their old IDs for printing? The old student IDs, themselves, will not work.  However, students need the proxy number from the back of the ID in order to be able to print (enter this manually to release the print job).

Access to Print & Database Materials:  SLS alums may use and borrow print materials in the library.  Electronic databases are typically restricted to current SLS students only. However, SLS is pleased to be able to offer the following databases to SLS alums:

  • HeinOnline:  The Robert Crown Law Library provides free access to HeinOnline’s Law Journal Library for Stanford Law School alumni. The Law Journal Library contains the full text of more than 1,800 law and law-related journals dating back to the 1800s. Alumni may search publications by title, state or country of origin, or by subject. Articles may be searched by author, title or keywords. Articles are downloadable in searchable PDF format.

Contact the Law Library to request access to the Law Journal Library.

  • Access to periodical databases beyond HeinOnline is also available for SLS alumni through the Stanford Alumni Association.  A complete list of databases available, and information about joining, is available on the Alumni Association’s Online Publication Databases page.
