Stanford Law School Mock Trial Program

The Mock Trial Program provides an opportunity for students to develop and showcase their oral advocacy skills. Interested students try out for the program during the early part of the fall quarter by delivering a short opening statement. Students are invited to join the team based on their public speaking ability; previous mock trial experience or knowledge of trial advocacy are not required. New team members receive intensive training during the fall quarter on how to conduct each stage of a trial, including arguing motions in limine; preparing witnesses; conducting direct and cross examinations; arguing objections; and delivering opening and closing statements. In the fall, all team members will compete as attorneys and witnesses in an internal tournament. Then, in the winter quarter, select team members will represent Stanford by traveling to compete at various regional and national tournaments.
