SUMMARY:Justice\, History\, Preservation: Birthright Citizenship
DESCRIPTION:Join the Stanford Center for Racial Justice and the American Legion Cathay Post 384 on Tuesday\, May 26\, from 5-7 pm at the Veterans Gallery in San Francisco for Justice\, History\, Preservation—a reception celebrating Wong Kim Ark and the landmark 1898 Supreme Court case that established birthright citizenship in America. Wong Kim Ark’s fight for belonging helped define the 14th Amendment and secured the right to citizenship for virtually all children born on U.S. soil\, regardless of their parents’ origin. His legacy continues to shape our nation’s understanding of equality and civil rights today. \nAt this special reception\, you’ll meet sculptor Alicia Ponzio\, who is creating a bronze bust of Wong Kim Ark for San Francisco’s Chinatown\, alongside Wong’s great-grandchildren\, Norman and Sandra Wong. The Stanford Center for Racial Justice team—Nini Tufon\, Nkemjika Emenike\, Ayomide Oloyede\, Tarina Ahuja\, and Hoang Pham—will also discuss their research supporting the project\, which is displayed as a poster in the gallery. \nLearn more about the Wong Kim Ark Bronze Bust Project: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bronze-bust-of-our-first-birthright-citizen-wong-kim-ark \nThis event is presented by American Legion Cathay Post 384. Visit their website at https://www.sfcathaypost384.org\n\nhttps://law.stanford.edu/event/justice-history-preservation-birthright-citizenship/\n\nThis event is open to the public.\n\nRegister Here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfjxHaVJgW1VhAZftDu6AkEm2OzDjIlSCH7m56rLcBS16PyHw/viewform?usp=dialog
