DESCRIPTION:Join the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and the Rock Center for Corporate Governance for an in-person conversation with Philip N. Jefferson\, Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. As Vice Chair\, Dr. Jefferson helps guide U.S. monetary policy and the nation’s central banking system. \nVice Chair Jefferson will offer remarks on the U.S. economy\, inflation\, labor markets\, and monetary policy beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday\, July 16. A fireside chat and Q&A moderated by SIEPR Director Neale Mahoney will follow. Guests are also invited to a cocktail reception at 5:00 p.m. \nAbout the Speaker \nPhilip N. Jefferson took office as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in September 2023. He has served as a member of the Board of Governors since 2022. Before joining the Federal Reserve\, Dr. Jefferson was vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty and the Paul B. Freeland Professor of Economics at Davidson College. Earlier in his career\, he was Centennial Professor of Economics at Swarthmore College and also served as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board. \nDr. Jefferson’s research has focused on macroeconomics\, poverty\, and applied econometrics\, with particular attention to economic inequality and public policy. He previously served as president of the National Economic Association and has authored numerous scholarly publications and books on economics and poverty.
