Legaltech Lightning
Updated to add more media coverage and to re-spell lightning. (Hat tip to Susan Salkind : )
We had a blast at Legaltech S.F. (aka West Coast) with two “Legal Innovation Lightening Rounds”— great speakers and engaged audiences! The morning session was lead by Oliver Goodenough (professor and co-director of the Center for Legal Innovation at Vermont Law School).

The three morning startups were ClearLegal (CEO David Fisher), EstatePass (Co-Founder David Slonim) and LawGeex (CEO Noory Bechor). Judges were Erin Harrison (editor-in-chief of Legaltech news), and CodeX Fellows Nicole Shanahan, Jay Mandal, et moi.
(For the afternoon session, Goodenough and Shanahan swapped tasks.)
Afternoon speakers were Leila Banijamali, Founder and General Counsel of Startup Documents; Jonathan Pyle, founder of Docassemble and Kevin Miller, CEO and Founder of Legal Sifter.

Quote: “In “Round Two” of the innovation sessions, moderator Nicole Shanahan, founder/CEO of ClearAccessIP and fellow at Stanford’s CodeX legal informatics center, explained, “There’s a lot to be gained with empowering people to use technology to answer legal questions; to help lawyers be more valuable.”
“Over the years, the [legal tech] community has really blossomed,” she added. “It started with two Goliaths, and now we have quite a few David’s in the space.”
