Clifford Chance has entered into a partnership with Kira Systems, which provides artifical intelligence software. Bas Boris Visser is the firm’s Global Head of Innovation and Business Change and “the champion for the firm’s strategy to anticipate, respond and adapt to key factors shaping the global legal industry, including new technologies and market entrants,” the press release noted. “Our clients are under substantial pressure to reduce legal [spending]. At the same time, they need more support to manage the increasing risks and complex issues that their companies are facing,” said Visser, who sees Kira as a new step to help the firm’s clients address the demand for greater value.

Kira’s Steve Obenski notes that DLA Piper has announced that it has partnered with Kira Systems, “to implement an artificial intelligence tool for document review during the due diligence process for M&A transactions.”

• Ian Campbell will remain as President and CEO of iConect, which will remain privately owned and independent, in the wake of the July 13 announcement of a multimillion-dollar agreement with FMMC Private Yield Fund (a private invent fund managed by Fraser Mackenzie Merchant Capital, reports iConect via a press release. “This agreement will support the ongoing development of iConect’s flagship XERA document review platform and its continued expansion in the legal e-discovery field, as well as its entrance into healthcare and finance industries,” the press release continued.

Gabe Friedman at Bloomberg Big Law Business reports that Allen & Overy and Axiom have “announced that they have developed proprietary software platforms to help banks prepare for a swath of new regulations on over-the-count derivatives expected to take effect by 2017.”

Lisa Solomon has launched Now Counsel Network. It is “a nationwide network of experienced freelance lawyers who provide project-based and temporary support to help solos and small law firms increase profits, decrease stress and get their lives back,” she said.
