R. Ashby Pate is a lawyer in Birmingham, Alabama at Lightfoot, Franklin & White.  Previously, he served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Palau, where he helped design the island nation’s first-ever jury trial system.  He also served as a judicial law clerk to United States District Judge U.W. Clemon, one of Alabama’s civil rights pioneers.

Since he returned to legal practice in 2016, Ashby has resumed his role as an advocate in some of the most important matters the Lightfoot firm handles.  Most recently, he was appointed co-prosecutor in the 2016 judicial ethics case of then Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore.

Ashby is also a sought-after public speaker.  His inspirational speech, Be the Light, has garnered thousands of views on YouTube and stresses the importance of human connection in the practice of law.
