I turn the mic over to CodeX Executive Director Roland Vogl!

CodeX Meeting: Dec. 7

Hi Everyone,

Our next CodeX meeting will be this Thursday (March 15), from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. (Pacific Time) in Room N112 of the Neukom Building of SLS (or via Zoom link below).

Our guests will be all presenting remotely.

Prof. Marco Lippi, of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and Dr. Przemysław Pałka, of the European University Institute.

CodeX Meeting: 3/15

Our presenters will discuss CLAUDETTE (automated CLAUse DETeCTEr), a research project aimed at automating reading and legal evaluation of terms of service and privacy policies of online platforms.

The project creates technology to power user-end apps and other tools for NGO (non goverment organizations and none consumer protection organizations).

Laurence L. Leff, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Computer Science, Western Illinois University.

CodeX Meeting: 3/15 1

Dr. Leff will discuss various research projects, including development of an expert system that manipulates facts as XML documents, much of the work done for the OASIS eContracts Technical Committee.

Mr. Rory Pilgrim, Associate Consultant, Azure Consulting Australia.

CodeX Meeting: 3/15 2

Mr. Pilgrim presents his research paper considering an open-source, socially produced Australian “legal commons” to act as a structured knowledge base for interpreting and accessing legal information. The paper discusses the value such a system may yield and motivations for legal practitioners to contribute, rather than technical feasibility.

See you then!
Roland
