1. First obstacle and how you overcame it:

From a very early age, I knew that I wanted to go to college. What wasn’t clear is how I would pay for it. I knew there was no college fund and that my parents would not otherwise be able to help me. It quickly became obvious that if I wanted to go to college, I would need scholarships. So, throughout high school, I studied harder than many of my friends to ensure I achieved an “A” in each class, I ran track and cross-country, I joined philanthropic organizations, and I worked part-time.

Because of this diverse experience, I received several scholarships. I am proud to say that between these scholarships and working throughout college as a waitress, I was able to pay for my college without taking out any student loans.

 

 

 

2: Dress codes?  I try to dress for my audience, but err on the side of professionalism. When I have court, client meetings or presentations, I wear a suit or modest dress and pumps. In the rest of my work life, I often sport a causal dress or jeans, fun heels (I have a bit of a shoe obsession), and a blazer.

3. Favorite charities: BorderLinks: Through dynamic educational experiences, BorderLinks connects divided communities, raises awareness about the impact of the border and immigration policies, and inspires action for social transformation.
