CODEX EXTRAS

Here are three bonus questions exclusive to CodeX:

1. Your most important mentor: Juan Llorens was a household name in information technology in Latin America and was an author of many books on information systems as well as the creator of methodologies for systems design. In college, we used his books constantly and they were a main reference guide. Not only was it unimaginable that I would meet him in person, but also that I would get the opportunity to work with and report to him while in his role as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Central Bank of Venezuela.

Llorens taught me what it takes to be a great leader and mentor to others. His humble attitude towards life and desire to help others succeed has marked my life. Llorens has since passed away, but not without leaving behind a great legacy for many to learn from, just as I have done.

2. Dress codes? Casual professional. Strike a balance between looking professional, being comfortable, and feeling great with yourself. We all are different, with various tastes and styles. That said, it is always important to keep in mind the occasion and remember you might be representing your company or manager.

3. Advice for young women: As cliché as it sounds, believe in yourself and take chances. Don’t fear failure, learn from it and get back to work.
