CodeX Meeting: May 23

I turn the mic over to Dr. Roland Vogl, Executive Director of CodeX —The Stanford Center for Legal Informations. —Monica Bay.

Hi Everyone,

Our next CodeX meeting is today — (Thursday May 23), from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time, in Room N112 of the Neukom Building of Stanford Law School. This week we’ll feature legal innovators from the United Kingdom (all joining remotely):

  • Daniel Hoadley, Incorporated Council of Law Reporting (ICLR). Daniel runs R&D at the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales and direct ICLR’s research lab, ICLR&D. ICLR&D is a legal information research and development lab based in London at the ICLR, publisher of the authorised law reports of judgments decided in England and Wales. Daniel will share about the lab and ongoing legal informatics projects.
  • Alastair Parvin and John Rees, Open Systems Lab. Open Systems Lab is developing PlanX– a digital guide that aims to make the planning process simpler. The key innovation behind this it an editor interface where planning authorities can write and publish planning policies and guidance in the form of machine-readable flowcharts, adding data automations.
  • Dr. Adam Wyner, Swansea University. Professor Wyner will outline the purposes, processes, and outputs of a pilot study on the annotation of the contents of Scottish legal instruments, using key LegalRuleML elements as annotations. The resulting annotated corpus is assessed in terms of how well it answers the users’ queries. The presentation gives an overview of what was done, how, and why. The XML corpus is open source and a public University initiative.

See you then!

Roland
