Roland Vogl 2

Hi Everyone,

Our next CodeX group meeting will be this Thursday (March 20), from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm PST, via Zoom–access info below. Our meetings continue to be held remotely.

Our guest will be:

Ryan Long, Principal at Long & Associates. Ryan will be speaking on “Legal Tech Liability: Section 230, Tort, or Infringement?”.

From the Speaker: Software use in the U.S. is rising. This is especially true of social media. Users are incurring health problems and committing acts of offline violence at increased rates. Some experts say these effects are caused by software use. Similarly, the rates of infringement have gone up. As a result, lawsuits have sprung up against tech companies like Meta. Whether you are an entrepreneur, advisor, or investor in legal tech, these cases are important. Your company’s evaluation can be negatively affected by the mere announcement of a class action. Should there be a line between online and offline intermediary liability? How does Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act play a part? This overview talk will provide an intro to the relevance of this case law to legal tech growth strategy, some recent case law, and potential ways to mitigate risk.

See you then!
Roland
