As an attorney, you may have occasion to interact with someone who has suffered a traumatic experience. Law school provides you with an excellent legal foundation to become a good lawyer, but sometimes that isn’t enough when working with clients who’ve experienced trauma. In order to create a trusting relationship, it’s important to develop the trust-building and listening skills necessary to connect on an emotional level.
Join us for a panel on Techniques for Compassionate Lawyering. Panelists will include Carla Richmond, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the San Francisco Trauma Recovery Center (TRC), as well as a number of speakers from the TRC’s Speakers Bureau. These speakers are survivors of interpersonal violence who have generously offered to share their stories. They will offer firsthand insights about how lawyers can respond compassionately to clients who have been through trauma.
Co-sponsored by the Center on the Legal Profession. Lunch provided.
