Beveridge & Diamond provides pro bono assistance to the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP), a non-profit organization, in connection with its promotion of sustainable management of the Atlantic menhaden fishery. B&D’s work includes representing TRCP in its formal objection to the certification of the Atlantic menhaden purse seine fishery by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and other activities related to the certification. Atlantic menhaden are a key low trophic level species that play a critical ecological role in sustaining fish and wildlife populations along the Atlantic coast. While the fishery is one of the largest commercial harvests on the Atlantic coast, sustainable management of the fishery is critical to the health of other commercial and recreational fisheries. Recent limits on the harvest of menhaden have even been credited with the return of whales to New York Harbor.
