Dear SLS,

The Stanford Public Interest Law Foundation is excited to announce its upcoming cycle of Student Initiative Grants for the 2021-2022 academic year! As many of you learned at last year’s auction, SPILF uses a portion of the proceeds from its annual spring auction to fund SLS student projects and initiatives. 

Past projects have included Alternative Spring Break trips, funding for Pro Bono programs to certify student attorneys and provide vital materials, keynote speakers at public interest conferences, service trips, and other exciting projects. In recent years, SPARC, WSL, Project Clean Slate, NALSA’s Alternative Spring Break, Stanford International Human Rights Law Association, and other individual projects received funding from SPILF.

SPILF is accepting applications from any student, group, project, or organization that is seeking funding for activities serving the public interest. Have a great idea for a conference? Apply for funding! Have an interesting and innovative idea for bringing public interest work to life for SLS? Apply for funding! Have an idea for a public service project in the local community? Apply for funding! Want to expand an existing program? Apply for funding! Let us help you do good.

The funding application is attached. Please note that any ASB or Pro Bono Program must receive approval from the Levin Center before SPILF can offer it funding. Please read both the application and FAQs carefully—it includes the criteria SPILF uses to evaluate applications, our funding timelines, etc. If you’re interested in applying, please return a completed application by Monday, November 8. Interviews of select applicants will be conducted over the following week. 

We plan to announce grantees in late November/early December, with funds to be spent by the end of this academic year. The next round of funding will be available in Spring 2022.
