West Wingers: Diverse Voices within the Obama Administration
- This event is archived.
Stanford alumnus Gautam Raghavan, President Obama’s LGBTQ+ liaison, comes to campus to discuss his new book West Wingers: Stories from the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House, a collection by Obama White House staff. He will be joined by several authors, including Stephanie Valencia, who writes about Sotomayor, Latinx issues, and immigration; Hope Hall, President Obama’s videographer who received her MA from Stanford; Julie Rodriguez, Cesar Chavez’s granddaughter, and President Obama’s point person on Latinx and immigration issues; and Heather Foster, President Obama’s liaison to the black community.
From the book’s press release: “Through moving and revealing personal stories, eighteen Obama staffers take readers deep inside the presidency, offering intimate accounts of what they witnessed during their time in the White House, and what they accomplished there. Each story exposes the human side of government—staffers devoting themselves to the issues that have defined their lives.”
This event is co-sponsored by OutLaw, BLSA, and SLLSA, as well as Stanford’s Queer Student Resources.
