Biography
Dr. Walter G. Johnson is a Fellow at the Center for Law and the Biosciences at Stanford Law School. His research examines the legal implications of and responses to emerging technologies. Johnson’s current focuses are on global neurotechnology governance, regulatory sandboxes, and FDA law and policy, and his publications cover a range of topics including administrative law, international law, artificial intelligence, public health law, and human rights.
His work has appeared in journals such as Law & Social Inquiry, Regulation & Governance, Journal of Law and the Biosciences, Human Rights Law Review, and Law, Innovation & Technology, as well as essays in outlets including the Washington Post, Nature Biotechnology, and Slate. His co-edited book, Reproduction Reborn: How Science, Ethics and Law Shape Mitochondrial Replacement Therapies, was published in 2023 (with Diana Bowman and Karinne Ludlow). He holds his JD from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University and a PhD from the Australian National University.
