Biography
Will von Geldern is an applied policy researcher and computational social scientist who uses mixed methods to study access to justice and the impacts of public policies on socially and economically marginalized communities. His recent work leverages computer vision, natural language processing, and field experiments to measure and increase take-up of legal assistance programs for tenants facing eviction. Will holds a BA in Political Science and Music from Grinnell College, an MPA from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a PhD from the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington. Before completing his PhD, Will led policy advocacy programs for community-based nonprofits in Seattle and New York City. At the Rhode Center, Will’s work will focus on using data science and AI tools to understand litigants’ experiences in civil court and promote access to justice.
