Kimathi Marangu

Biography
Kimathi Marangu is a board member, fintech leader, and former Global Head of Prepaid at Visa. He is also a former entrepreneur who co-founded Cartera Commerce, a commerce and loyalty technology company that was later acquired by Rakuten.
Over the course of his career, Marangu has worked across financial services, technology, and governance. Before his entrepreneurial and operating roles, he was an investment banker at J.P. Morgan and Morgan Stanley. He brings experience in fintech innovation, payments, capital markets, and board leadership.
Marangu currently serves as chairman of the San Mateo County Employee Retirement Association pension board. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Vassar College, a board member of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, an advisory board member for Stanford Federal Credit Union, and a board member of Compass Family Services. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Marangu holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Vassar College and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
