SLLSA is pleased to announce that civil rights icon Dolores Huerta will be featured as the keynote speaker for our Cinco Week.
An associate of Cesar Chavez, a contemporary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an awardee with Mother Teresa, the legendary Dolores Huerta is revered as one of recent history's most iconic civil rights figures. From co-founding the UFW, to witnessing firsthand the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, to being beaten and nearly killed by San Francisco police during a peaceful civil rights protest, Dolores Huerta has been front and center in America's long march towards forming “a more perfect union.” At the age of 84, Dolores continues to fight for social justice through the Dolores Huerta Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to organizing low-income immigrant communities in California's Central Valley, and through her advocacy on women’s equality, reproductive rights and LGBT issues.
Co-sponsored by GSC, VPGE, MEChA, El Centro Chicano, WSL, APILSA, NALSA, and US-Mex Focus.
