Law and Philosophy Workshop (3527): SCOPE AND CONTENT: In this seminar, we will study the work of guest scholars whose research falls at the intersection of law and philosophy. The central aim is to provide a forum for students, faculty, and members of the general public to engage with novel research at the intersections of these fields. Four weeks of the quarter will be conducted as a research seminar during which enrolled participants meet with the instructor to read background materials recommended by the upcoming speakers. Five weeks of the quarter will be conducted as a workshop meeting, open to faculty and students, for which a pre-read paper or book chapter written by the guest will be discussed by attendees. The pre-read paper or book chapter will be introduced by the course instructor or by an enrolled participant. PREREQUISITES: This course is open to law students, graduate students, and (only by consent of the instructor) advanced undergraduate students. At least one advanced undergraduate course in analytic philosophy, taken before the current quarter, is required. COURSE EXPECTATIONS: This course will be conducted in-person as a seminar in which students will be expected to produce the following over the course of the quarter: (1) detailed discussion posts for every class meeting that evidence focused engagement with readings, (2) a final paper oral presentation, and (3) a final paper.
