Biography
Amanda McCaffrey is an associate at the global law firm DLA Piper. She recently completed the firm’s Krantz Fellowship, a full-time pro bono program, during which she represented clients seeking immigration relief through USCIS, EOIR, and in state court; appeared as a delegate for the country Georgia at intersession conferences under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; represented incarcerated clients seeking post-conviction relief; and worked with Afghan women judges in need of resettlement. She received her JD in 2020 from Stanford Law School, where she was a member of the International Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Clinic, led the Afghanistan Legal Education Project, and researched unlawful migrant detention for the Human Rights in Trauma Mental Health Lab. As a student and intern, Amanda has supported litigators arguing before the International Court of Justice and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the Hague as well as state and federal courts in the United States, and has worked with government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and UN entities on a wide range of research and advocacy projects. She has published articles and blog posts on various issues in international law, including several pieces on the human rights obligations of multinational corporations. Amanda holds a BA in anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley and an MFA in creative writing from New York University, and volunteered for several years as a creative writing instructor at two Bay Area jails.
