Biography
Kate Makhzoumi started her legal career at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where she represented both individuals and large companies in white collar, trade secret, and high-stakes employment matters at both the trial and appellate level. She left to join Thumbtack, Inc., a high-growth tech company, as their third lawyer where she oversaw litigation, employment, and trust & safety legal matters. As Director of Litigation, she managed all litigation, pre-litigation and employment matters, grew the legal team as the company nearly doubled its valuation to over $3 billion, and became an expert on the legal and policy contours of CDA section 230. She has extensive experience litigating in state and federal court, conducting internal investigations, and counseling in areas of employee relations, trust & safety, crisis communications, and government affairs.
Prior to law school, Kate worked as an analyst in the business intelligence group at Goldman Sachs in New York. Kate received her B.A. from Amherst College, where she was Phi Beta Kappa and captain of the tennis team, and J.D. from Stanford Law School. At Stanford, she enjoyed Law Review, TAing the Federal Litigation and Oral Argument Practicum classes, and serving as class president. Originally from Los Altos, Kate is happily settled back in the Bay Area and you can usually find her at the beach or mountain biking with her husband and three kids.
