Biography
Nicole is a data scientist who is passionate about social impact. She is born and raised in Guangzhou, China, and moved to the US for her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Occidental College. She recently received her master’s degree in data science from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she applied image classification techniques to estimate regional poverty levels in Rwanda, Africa, and analyzed fake news on Twitter during the 2016 US election. She is a recipient of several grants and awards to carry out social projects in different parts of the world, including a $10,000 grant from Davis Project for Peace to help a social enterprise in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi, Africa, to sell overseas. She now works for Professor Ho to use machine learning techniques to predict incidents of water waste non-compliance.
