Join the American Constitution Society (ACS) and the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) for a conversation with Judge Trina Thompson of the Northern District of California.
Appointed by President Biden in 2022, Judge Thompson is a trailblazer who became the first African American woman elected to the Alameda County Superior Court in 2002. She is known for her tireless advocacy for justice and inclusion. Judge Thompson’s distinguished career spans roles as a criminal defense attorney, public defender, and lecturer at UC Berkeley, where she has shaped the next generation of legal minds. She was also appointed to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention by President Obama in 2011. Her appointment to the federal bench in 2022 was a culmination of her long-standing commitment to upholding due process and advocating for fairness in the legal system.
Judge Thompson will discuss her background, career, and path to the bench. She will also be joined by her clerks, who will share their insights about externships and clerkships.
