BlackRock and the Big Three: Proxy Voting on Party Committees in Chinese Corporate Governance
The China Law and Policy Association will host Professor Lauren Yu-Hsin Lin of the City University of Hong Kong School of Law for a lunch talk on her research, “BlackRock Exceptionalism in the Geopolitics of Proxy Voting.” Drawing on 24,556 votes cast by U.S. mutual funds on Chinese corporate charter amendments incorporating Chinese Communist Party committees into corporate governance, Professor Lin examines striking differences in voting behavior among BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street. The talk explores how asset managers’ commercial interests, fiduciary obligations, and geopolitical considerations intersect in the context of U.S.-China relations. Lunch will be provided.
