Stephen Rosenbaum, a SLS lecturer and disability rights attorney, will discuss some of the out-of-state and international models that are an alternative to the status quo (commitment for persons who are “a danger to self or others” or unable to care for themselves, i.e. “gravely disabled”).
He teaches disability rights law at Stanford Law School and is Of Counsel, Law Offices of Michael Sorgen, San Francisco. He also has a Lecturer appointment at his alma mater, UC Berkeley School of Law. Steve served previously as staff attorney with Disability Rights California, specializing in the rights of students with disabilities and institutionalized persons and as senior litigation attorney with the Disability Rights, Education & Defense Fund.
