The Brussels Effect of EU content moderation laws on U.S.-based online speech platforms.

Join Jordan Smith, a fellow at the Stanford Program in Law, Science & Technology, for a presentation on the “Brussels Effect” – the phenomenon of European regulations influencing how U.S. companies choose to operate and how U.S. legislators craft laws. She will explain the conflicting approaches to online speech regulation that currently exist in Europe versus the United States and some ways that U.S.-based tech companies have started to push back against European influence on their online content moderation approaches.
